TECH TALES: An Immersive Storyworld for Children of the Present

This September 25th 2026, 11:00am–19:00pm. TECH TALES, an immersive exhibition created for children of the present, will open at Vienna Design Week Festival Headquarters, Hietzinger Kai 101. Running from 25 September to 4 October 2026, the exhibition invites children to step inside a series of storyworlds where their actions, ideas and creativity become part of the narrative.

The exhibition uses storytelling, technology and play to explore identity, belonging, friendship and diversity. Instead of simply explaining these ideas, children experience them through participation, encouraging creativity, empathy and perspective-taking. At a time when children are surrounded by increasingly complex social realities, TECH TALES asks a deceptively simple question: What happens when we give children the opportunity not just to experience a story, but to help shape it? Perhaps the answer begins with a small twist in perspective — and the space to imagine possibilities. 

The project brings together seven organisations from across Europe: the Institute for Transmedia Design and Art Rebel 9 from Slovenia; Vienna Design Office from Austria; NGO FLUX from Montenegro; ART TRANSPARENT from Poland; Grupa Hajde da from Serbia; and IAAC – FabLab Barcelona from Spain.

By bringing together different creative disciplines and perspectives, the consortium is exploring how new technologies can complement — rather than replace — imagination, storytelling and human connection. We look forward to seeing you there!
