Crafting new illustrations with the children Cetinje, Montenegro: Twisted Tales

At the heart of the Twisted Tales project is participation, and with each workshop a new segment of our story emerges.

As part of this year’s FLUID design forum held in Cetinje, Montenegro, on April 21st we held a workshop embarking on a creative journey with local children using our Twisted Tales educational method.

The FLUID design forum, organised by our long-standing partner FLUX, is a week-long event, a melting pot of innovation and artistic expression, conceived as a series of lectures, forums and workshops organised in several locations in Montenegro. It was the perfect setting for our Twisted Tales workshop, which aimed to stimulate the creativity of local children and create something unique together with them. With the animated film Cinda Real and the audio fairy tale of Allan and his magic lamp serving as an inspiring backdrop, the workshop became a playground where young minds could move freely and contribute to our evolving project.

One of the core values of Twisted Tales is participation, which permeates the entire creative process of our tales, sometimes through conversations with children, sometimes through their illustrations, sounds and other contributions. Each workshop represents a new step in our universe, as the children’s contributions are more than just additions; they are the life force that enriches and shapes the stories we tell.

A psychologist’s perspective on Twisted Tales

Our dear collaborator and psychologist Suzana Krstić beautifully encapsulated the essence of Twisted Tales, describing it as a transformative journey for both young and old. Here is an excerpt that reflects the spirit of our project:

“Twisted Tales enable both adults and children to grow, become childlike, fly on carpets, walk through dark forests, dance, freeze, thaw, encounter numerous challenges, and ultimately, through all the labyrinths, find themselves enriched with new insights and diversities. By accepting the differences of others, we come to accept and love ourselves.”
