    Future Friends

    Have you ever wondered what our possible futures might look like? And how we can make changes today to create better futures?

    Speculative Design asks critical questions about the future and offers alternative scenarios that help us better understand both the world today and the world of tomorrow.

    Spearheaded by renowned European institutions in the field of Speculative Design – the University of Split (Croatia), Edinburgh Napier University (UK), Goldsmiths, the University of London (UK), the Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (Portugal), the Human Ecosystems Relazioni (Italy), and the Institute for Transmedia Design (Slovenia) – SpeculativeEdu, a European Erasmus+ project, aims at investigating novel educational skills and practices for the 21st century, both inter- and multidisciplinary, with a special focus on relationships between people, technology, and society.

    SpeculativeEdu features the Future Friends Event, taking place in Maribor, Slovenia, 14 – 18 April 2019. Leading Speculative Design practitioners, educators, and researchers, including James Auger, Matt Ward, Ivica Mitrović, Ingi Helgason, Michael Smyth, Oriana Persico and Salvatore Iaconesi, Jimmy Loizeau, Rosario Hurtado and Dash Macdonald, will share, exchange, and speculate about Speculative Design and possible futures with an emphasis on the “real world”; that is, responding to the needs of people, society, public policy, and economy.

    April 17: HAPPY FUTURE FRIENDS PARTY

    April 18: THE STATE OF SPECULATIVE DESIGN: AN OPEN DISCUSSION

    The Future Friends Event is a mix of educational events, workshops, a conference, and an open discussion, accompanied by networking events, including the Happy Future Friends Party, which will be open to anyone keen to exchange knowledge and experience with design professionals and the general public.  

     

    The Future Friends Event is supported by Centre for Creativity, Slovenia, Academia, College of Short-Cycle Higher Education, Maribor, MIKK Murska Sobota, Youth Cultural Center.
